    Our Mission

Black History Legacy exists to educate, inspire, and honor Black history through accessible, engaging, and accurate storytelling. We bring together notable figures, inventions, landmark events, speeches, heritage locations, and classroom resources so this history is easier to discover, understand, and teach.

We highlight crucial, often overlooked African American people, places, and contributions, connecting national history with the communities and families who lived it.

    What You’ll Find Here

SC Heritage: History Where It Happened

Starting in South Carolina. North Carolina and more states to come.

Begin in South Carolina to discover African American heritage through historical figures, communities, landmarks, cemeteries, battlefields, and other significant locations. We highlight Black roles during the Revolutionary War, including the experiences of free and enslaved people, and connect those stories to other important periods of Black history.

Where available, location pages include researched historical context, sources, maps, and GPS coordinates. Verified locations are clearly distinguished from approximate or uncertain ones.

    Trace Your Family

Explore tools and research guidance that help families investigate their African American ancestry, organize family information, and locate potentially relevant historical records.

Our guidance supports researching enslaved ancestors through census records, Freedmen’s Bureau records, wills, probate documents, plantation records, military records, and other archival collections held by libraries and archives.

These tools provide research leads and assistance, not confirmed ancestry. Records may be incomplete, names may vary, and every suggested connection requires verification.

    Trace Your Family

    Honoring Local History. Connecting Generations.

Black history lives in more than textbooks. It lives in local communities, family memories, historic places, and records waiting to be explored. We are beginning with South Carolina and building a foundation for additional states, including North Carolina, as researched material becomes available.

Our goal is to help visitors understand what happened, discover where it happened, and explore how those stories connect with their own families.

    Who Runs It

Black History Legacy is owned and operated by MJ Professional Solutions LLC, which publishes a family of educational and professional websites.

Subscriptions and sponsor support help sustain the project, support continued research, and expand our educational resources.

    Accuracy Matters

We work to present history faithfully through careful research and clear source attribution. We use AI to assist with drafting and expanding educational materials, but AI can make mistakes.

We distinguish documented facts from interpretations, uncertain locations, and unverified family connections, and we label illustrative or AI-generated imagery clearly.

If you notice an error in a name, date, portrait, location, or description, please contact us. We welcome corrections and will review them.
